JOB PURPOSE:

We are looking to recruit a personal care assistant to provide support to a 3-year-old young girl with a diagnosis of Quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and visual impairment.

Main Duties:  
We are looking to recruit a personal care assistant to provide support to a 3-year-old girl living with her family in the Norham area. The support is to work with Mum/second worker to manage evening routine from mealtimes through to bath time and bed. 

This young child has complex needs, including quadriplegic cerebral palsy, is non-verbal, has minimal mobility, epilepsy managed by medications and is fed through a gastrostomy tube.

She can use communication cues to express when she is in discomfort, but is otherwise a happy little girl who lights up the room when she is around. Her mother will be on hand to support with understanding her wants and needs and to offer support whilst working relations are formed.

The suitable applicant must be physically fit and willing to support with moving and handling of the child during bathing. Somebody who can access activities on the floor to engage with the child would also be preferred. 

Full training in relation to moving & handling, medication administration and safeguarding will be provided as and where required. 

Due to the family's location a car driver is preferred as public transport is not easily accessible in the area

Main Duties will initially include: 
·       Support at meal times to prepare meals and feed the child 
·       Support with bathing and readying for bed 
·       Provide support with medication 
·       Engaging the child whilst mum supports sibling ·       

Personal Care – nappy changing etc.  

As this is a new role for the family and child duties will evolve as a relationship is formed with both the child and family.
All new duties will be discussed and agreed with all involved before proceeding. Person Specification
 
The successful applicant must:
 ·       have experience and a positive understanding about children who have disabilities 
·       have knowledge and experience of working with children/young people with complex needs 
·       be able to respond sensitively and positively to any changes in behaviour 
·       have a high degree of initiative 
·       be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised 
·       be flexible 
·       have a happy, positive and caring nature 
·       respect confidentiality 

Hours of work will be: 
·       9 hours per week – 3 x 3hour calls between 3:30 and 6:30pm 
·       Days of the week are negotiable based on availability of suitable employee.  

Rates of pay  
·       £10.82 per hour. 
·       5.6 weeks holiday (pro rata) 
·       Out of pocket expenses will be met by the Employer.   

This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check and references the costs of which will be met by the employer 
 
Any further information: Work is to be 3 evenings per week between 3:30 and 6:30pm to provide support to Mum for evening routine. Evenings are flexible for the right person and will be discussed further at interview
